Joost Weet Het!

Joost Weet Het ("Joost Knows!") teaches Dutch in central Amsterdam with a strong emphasis on practical communication rather than academic language study. Regular evening courses meet twice weekly for 2 hours; intensive daytime programs run 4 hours daily for 1-3 months — all centered on getting students talking in real situations.

Course prices start around €7.50 per hour, making this one of the more affordable options in Amsterdam, with class materials included in the fees. The curriculum covers A0 through B2 levels, with specific preparation for NT2 state exams and naturalization requirements: beginners learn to express basic needs and hold simple conversations, while advanced students work on grammar subtleties, Dutch expressions, and the word-order challenges that trip up most learners.

The teaching team includes Joost Smits, a social economist who speaks five languages fluently, and colleagues with backgrounds in drama therapy, anthropology, and cultural studies.

Beyond lessons, the school organizes social activities — including salsa classes — so students can practice Dutch in relaxed settings. Spanish courses are offered too, and intensive summer courses run in June, July, and August.
